- A1M then A168/A19 to Thirsk/Teeside
- Then take A172 toward Stokesly
- Then take A173, from a roundabout near Stokesley past Great Ayton
- Then near Guisborough take the A171 toward Whitby and Scarborough and follow the signs
- Take B1366 (Liverton Road) toward Loftus, follow the road all the way through Liverton and Liverton Mines
- The road twists and turns down a steep hill into Loftus
- At the cross roads turn right onto the A174 toward Whitby
- If you miss the Loftus turning, turn left a half mile later toward Grinkle and Easington, on Grinkle Lane, then right at the A174
- Continue past Boulby potash mine and turn left at the sign for Staithes
- The old village is at the bottom of the steep hill

- A1 South from Durham
- Then A689 from Sedgefield to Hartlepool and Teeside
- Then A19/A66 to The South/Stockton/Darlington
- Cross the Tees bridge after five miles to Middlesborough on the A66
- Then A171 toward Guisborough, Whitby and Scarborough and follow the signs
